A credit score is a number that has three digits. It is specific only to you. Your credit score is derived from a number of different factors. Your history when it comes to paying your bills is considered. How much money you currently owe, or, how much debt you are in is also looked at. If you have filed for bankruptcy in the past, been arrested, or have been sued by other creditors, this will have an effect on your credit score. In short, your credit score is an easy way for a lender to determine how likely you are to pay back the money you are asking to borrow from it.

It is important to have a credit score. You do not automatically have one; it is something you have to build. Some of the things that contribute to your credit score include the credit cards you have, any loans you have taken out, and how reliably you have been paying them off. It can be a bit of a vicious cycle because in order to get your first credit card or loan, the lender will check your credit history. If you have no credit history, it is going to be harder for you to get approved for a loan or a credit card. Or, you might end up being offered a higher interest rate than someone who had a nice, long, credit history.

Whether your credit score is good or bad, it is still important. People with bad credit scores are more likely to be turned down when they apply for a credit card, or a loan. Or, they will only be offered a card or loan with a high interest rate. A bad credit score could mean you have to pay a large security deposit in order to rent an apartment, or, that your application will be turned down.

People who have good credit scores enjoy some nice benefits. They can get credit cards with high limits, with low interest rates, and that come with great rewards and extras. They have more flexibility in the kind of mortgage they will be offered. There is potential that they will not be paying as much on car insurance as someone with bad credit. In other words, credit score is important because it governs how easy or difficult a time you will have with every financial aspect of your life.
